Frédéric Malle’s Bois de Santal scented candle is, like many of the perfumer’s iconic fragrances, inspired by a distant yet impactful memory from earlier in his life.As a child, Frédéric Malle stands in a Parisian apartment, captivated by a great sandalwood Buddha that sits cross-legged before him. The woody scent of this carved sculpture fills the interior, casting an imprint in the perfumer’s mind; a memory which would not settle until recreated. Carlos Benaïm developed this fragrance with a prominent sandalwood note and rich, Indian elements.
